Re: DPMS any good?
The fwd sight on your gas block is aluminum right? The magpuls I bought said do not mount on gas block may melt. The aluminums were over $130. I bought the polymer peep sights and added a $40 quadrail to mount just prior to gas block. Given you want Vietnam era style rifles you'll want to keep pic rails off the forearm.

Ordered them off Amazon and they're aluminum, but they weren't $130!

Good grief! I just looked, and those things are supposed to retail for $700.00.
You got two of them?
I think that your local Police Department should be doing a Theft Report on those transactions...........

Re: DPMS any good?
How much did you pay for aluminum sights on Amazon? What brand? Ones I looked at were Daniel Defense. Fin is good and cheap on guns and has a markup on accessories.

Re: DPMS any good?
The reason for price difference is mine are flip up backup sights from Magpul that can be adjusted on front and back sight. I assume only the back sight on your handle style is adjustable when zeroing in? Mine were made to stay on if you added a scope.

Re: DPMS any good?
Yes, the carry handle rear sight is where you make the adjustments. I actually need to get some flip up sights for mine in the case that my optic battery dies at a bad time.

Re: DPMS any good?
Mr. Electrician should be able to tell if his batteries are getting weak and never run out of juice!
Definitely a good idea. You never know if your optics could get scratched or damaged too.

Yeah, it's hard to wrap your tongue around one of those flat batteries to touch both posts, to see if it still has power.

Re: DPMS any good?
Tell me about it.
When I was a Parachute Rigger, I made beautiful custom repairs to other folks' rigs.
Mine looked like it got dragged behind a truck (never had time to get around to it, and besides, I knew that it didn't have to be pretty to be safe).

Re: DPMS any good?
What are your thoughts on having them engraved to personalize them for the boys? The pros in my mind are that it would be a special memory being their first MSR's, and it would eliminate any mix ups between the two since they're identical other than serial #'s. Are there any cons to having them engraved other than resale issues down the road? I doubt they'd ever be selling them anyway.

Re: DPMS any good?
Could engrave the fwd sight as its cheap to replace if resold. If I had an MSR as a boy never bo sold or traded.
To be Vietnam era that stock would solid traditional shape right?

Re: DPMS any good?
Yeah, it's far from a legitimate Vietnam Era model. Just going for a semblance.
I did think about maybe just having the side of the carry handle engraved. Still debating.
