Try and keep your focus on Reach, Teach and Keep for Christ.  I have made the mistake of going after the merit driven life to only realize it was not the best choice.

Ranger Derby brings in Dads, Grandpas and even moms into the Ranger program.  While a easy to earn merit like models and designs can be earned fast.  Give it out more than once.  Also give out certifications for attendance at events or derbies.

Most of what the boys earn at the early ages DR and below don't count for GMA just keep in mind the RTK folks for Christ is so much more important than a vest full of merits that will soon be placed in a drawer somewhere to be rarely seen.  Plant memories and experiences in those folks hearts and minds.

Don't get me wrong. I work on the merits as we go and give credit like this weekends 2 night backpack 15 miler.  counts towards the 55 mile hiking merit.  Yet I Know down the road the boys and folks will come back and say those were some of the best days of my life.  All the time modeling Jesus in front of them.
