Mix DR and AR badges on vest?
Hello,
I have a few DRs that have moved onto AR. Would like to know if their AR vests can still have the DR badges on them (rope craft, lashing, cooking, etc)? I was thinking of just having them change out the front DR for an AR badge, plus the advancement badges on the front. Basically want to know if they can just add the new AR badges on the back to the DR badges they already have. They are definetley proud of their accomplishments and they want the able to show them.

Good Question... I have the opposite problem.... I have DR kids earning AR merits and AR earning DR. I don't see why they can't wear the badges they have earned.

I'm fairly certain that it's supposed to be like that. Our boys do that.

No restriction on wearing merit badges from other groups on a different group vest. For instance under Marriott an AR needed 4 red discovery merits for the GMA. Also leaders can wear merit badges for merits they have taught or in the case of FCF required merits have earned and we are not part of those groups.

Re: Mix DR and AR badges on vest?
In the old days, each Ranger had an age-group uniform where awards specific to that group were worn. The awards vest was to hold all merits, patches, etc that were earned through the lifetime of the Ranger.
Now the only clothing is a utility shirt, t-shirt and awards vest. Absent any clear manual guidance, I would say that the awards vest can still be used for anything ever earned. Just put the latest age-group patch in front, and move the previous patch to the back.
I ran out of room on my vest a few years ago. I guess I could put on a hundred pounds and transfer everything to an XXXXL vest.

Re: Mix DR and AR badges on vest?
I saw a leader at RKTC had a vest with old beige color with an "extension" added to the bottom. Looked like a Jewish priest robes went down to ankles. It was awards but mostly event patches.
Yea old days GPH didn't sell vests it was just a "suggestion" with no layout guidelines. I do like the availability or vest through gph and a guideline. I would take it as a guideline and may vary as you see fit.
For cost I would just sew the medal patches on for each medal earned from RK UP to ER. Add medals for CofA.
I still use the old beige style and added chevrons and advanced award ribbons. I also put name tabs for each group I was in as a boy and taught in as an adult.
The only change I would make is for leaders to remove the boys group badge and use name tabs for each group they have taught in or attach the RMA training levels there instead.
