Celebrated one year of being in our new house yesterday. I look around and on one hand we've done a lot, but on the other hand I haven't done nearly as much as I'd like to,... or may need to.

Anyone heard anything about blood moons? Basically there's been one everytime something major happened in history and there's one coming up in September. I did here that the Jade Healm excercise will be wrapping up Sept 15th. Who knows, maybe they'll be looking for a way to test their new found education. Just like there's been FBI training in every city (at that time!) that had major gun crime.... Maybe they're going nationwide with it now.

Just a thought...... Mr Green

What is BOV stand for? I have thought of going Amish-like for a motor vehicle. I know movies are movies but all the latest ones one theme runs in them is the potential scare of an EMP attack and all unshielded electronic tech goes dead. Cap II, Jurassic World, and last transformers all mention EMPs. Now we are letting Iran develop WMDs.

Given what my modern electronic car almost did to me a completely non electronic car is appealing.

BOV = Bug Out Vehicle

Of course nobody knows how strong of a pulse could be emitted, or how much it could fry, but it's generally accepted that the more delicate electronics a vehicle possesses, the more susceptible it would be to an EMP. There are thought processes that even old school coils found in starters, alternators and distributers could also be susceptible, but if those are the only three things that needed to be replaced after a strike (say if you kept spares in a Faraday box), then you'd have a fighting chance to have mobility.

Faraday box?

I should of thought of that duh bugout vehicle. I have a bug out bag started.

Hopefully, pulses will be strongest in big cities. We are 45 mins from Cle, 2.5 hrs Columbus, and 2 hrs from Toledo. I don't think lil Oberlin will be ground zero of an attack.

I saw a bug out van on Pawn Stars once I liked it it was well rigged.

I just sold an extreme bugout vehicle.

It was an older Massey Ferguson Model 135 diesel tractor that belonged to my sister-in-law.

Diesel Powered, Manual Transmission.  The Alternator did not work (I replaced it prior to sale), but it wasn't necessary.  All that you had to do was to park it on a hill-side, turn the fuel switch on, put it in second gear, let it roll about 5 feet, and pop the clutch: you're rolling.

To shut it down: find a convenient hill to park on, pull the fuel cut-off, and lock the brake.

I think that I got about $1,800 for it.

With that tractor, you wouldn't be the FIRST person to get there, but you might be the ONLY person to get there.

Yes Claymore, a true diesel that doesn't need even a glow plug is the best.

I saw that van on Pawn Stars. It was pretty neat. There are so many possibilities that could happen that it's hard to know what would be best.

The Faraday cage (or box) is just a metal container that has a neutral charge within it. It's a phenomenon that occurs within metal boxes, or cages. You can youtube it for additional info, but it's why cell service, radio and TV signals are worse inside of metal sided buildings. I've worked in a lot of military bases where there will be a room down in the basement of a non descript building somewhere that will be totally wrapped in copper sheeting. Floor, walls, and ceiling. Those are usually the areas that require armed guards for us contractors to proceed into and require the occupants to sanitize their computers before we entered. Those were always a PITA when our scope of work necessitated that we work through those areas.

The house we live in has a duplex apt attached and has a metal roof. Cell signals and wifi are difficult to get there. We had to install a wifi repeater in the room next to the apt on our side to give that side good wifi back to its bedroom.

Theoretically, could someone build a faraday cage or garage for their modern car and protect it?

Absolutely, but it would be expensive. The other thing to keep in mind is that all the estimates of damage are based on data from past EMP testing and nobody knows how powerful of a pulse might be used. I say that because there are limitations to every defense and IIRC they've figured that at a certain level that a Faraday still won't get it done. Dunno

Plus, a BOV probably wouldn't be a great daily driver anyway. I'm thinking rugged, older than the "brain box" era, and 4×4. Just imagine what the landscape might look like after a catastrophe like an EMP! The streets would be littered with stalled vehicles. Some people might pull to the shoulder when their car died, others possibly couldn't or just wouldn't. I doubt that a standard sedan would make it through....

Gotta think out of the box, guys. Claymore! What kind of ultra-light would work well? Extremely short take-off distance, able to carry pilot and 200 lbs (or passenger), 100 air miles, wings fold up for compact storage (or hiding)...

Not a bad idea, but you're so limited in such an aircraft. Would have to be daylight and good weather. I looked into taking flying lessons a few months ago and found how vulnerable even small airplanes are in inclement weather, not to mention an ultralight. Plus it's a whole different level to even get instrument trained to fly at night.

But I guess you guys know all that who fly. It's not a bad idea, just also has limitations, but I guess everything does at some point.... scratch

You've just hit on it, Phil.

Vulnerable, Expensive, and Time Consuming.

When I had my own 2-seat ultralight, It started with a $13,000.00 initial investment (used aircraft), $300.00 hangar & maintenance per month, and $20.00 to $40.00 per hour for fuel & operating expenses.

Additionally, I probably spent about 15 hours per week at the airfield (75% maintenance & inspections, 25% flying), and you have to spend more time (an hour per week) just maintaining your book-knowledge and checking FAA Temporary Flight Restrictions for your Operating Area.

You need to fly a few hours per month just to maintain proficiency. It ain't like riding a bicycle.

And, while I was certified as an Ultralight Pilot, Ultralight Instructor, and Private Pilot, I found that a lot of the pilots (especially those who flew General-Aviation Aircraft [Cessnas, Pipers, etc]) were insufferable arrogant dinks, whom I did not really enjoy hanging around with.

A family from our church became associate missionaries and went to Vietnam for a year. From the outset, their young boys were continually sick. Just got word that they were expelled by the government and are now in Thailand. They'll be here in two weeks to get their feet back under them, and then off to Seattle. For what, I don't know.

It's tough out there, especially when you're in a Gospel-sensitive area.

So I guess the "separation of church and state" that the libs always love to tout is out the window when it comes to their pet issues...

And the real kick in the pants is THIS is exactly what Thomas Jefferson was talking about when he penned that there needed to be a separation of church and state. Not that the church couldn't have influence in the state.... ARGH!!!!
