I am glad I am a Christian. When we have done something for so long and know the in's and outs and can get it done with out much help from anyone... then it come. HUMBLE PIE!

This years SW Divisional Pow Wow and Card board Boat Regatta kept me and many others busy for the past 2 to 3 weeks trying to be beat the water from entering our paper based boats. I had a weeks vacation so I was able to complete a boat after a sunday night ranger group cut out the parts and I glued it all up and got it ready for paint. It was so tight it couldn't sink. I had built a great ship that would go 3 times easy.. so I thought.

We had 101 folks show up for the best rib meal deal you will ever see offered. 4.00 bought all the ribs you could eat, season smoked green beans that are out of this world, baked potato, butter, sour cream, salad with 1000 island dressing, pudding and all the bug juice you could swallow.

Friday night we had a great council fire service and it was hot and muggy sleeping even with my two battery fans blowing away on me. Saturday morning brought breakfast and just about 30 minutes before we were to open registration a "monsoon" with torrent rain, blowing wind so hard it was lifting our canopy off the ground and the only thing that saved it was 4 other brothers in Christ riding out the storm with me to save the computer, printer, 2 pa systems and cords registration and such. I found a empty bucket with 1.2 inches of rain in it..that came down in about 30 minutes.

The boat I was assuring everyone would go the distance several times now had a good 45 minute soaking and the conestaga wagon that was up on the front of the boat was no longer destingesd as such. We quickly regrouped the setup and had the devotion started just 20 minutes behind schedule.

After a failed council fire I had made it was top heavy and would fall over in the water on the two pontoons I had it floating on... made it to big. So we beached it and it still didn't burn because our tinder for up on top was wet and blown all around..so those 3 hours of pulling nails out fence boards and resawing the 2x4's down to 2x2 and then cutting them to length well.. it was worth it.

Right off the get go the well made boat I have assembled with a little help from the boys painting and cutting out parts was sinking out in the cove with 6 folks in it...4 boys and 2 young ladies.

So with all the hard work I was reminded once again. Pride comes before the fail.

We had a great pow wow and regatta and enjoyed the fun and fellowship. We had some 21 boats running and around 200 there. God was praised and lifted up and I know He was watching out for us with no mishaps or injuries besides on bloody noise from a close shot water balloon..the boy was back at it a few moments later.

Summer is almost over. I hope you found time this past year to RTk boys and girls for Christ. I know we had a banner year.

Sorry the the boat had problems, but it sounds like it was surely an adventure! How were the boys after all of that?

Ya. My outpost folk were all staring in disbelief as it went down. We had a good slice of humble pie. Of course I have not interviewed the captain and his crew yet to find out who was the major contributor besides the 1 plus inch of rain.

It couldn't have been anything I did wrong... oh my here I go again for another lesson. Grin!!!

A relative of yours didn't help design a big boat that sank in the early 1900's did he...?
