Wow is it cold
9 degrees was the high temp today
5 degrees tonight with -15 windchill
I was really getting to like the 35 degree, green winter we were having for the last month
but it was too good to last in this state
Pastor informed me yesterday that he wants all leaders to attend Adult Bible study for the next 3-4 weeks for a special teaching series, so no Rangers at all in January This was of course the morning after I spent 2 hours planning out the next quarter

My son and 2 of his friends got back yesterday from a 3 day backpack. Temp were pretty cold for sure. Lows in the upper teens. They did real well. It was nice they heeded the advice given them.
These temps it can get bad out there. I didn't have to go up a telephone pole yesterday that was nice.

I was having trouble getting myself to work. GRIN! Went up only 3 poles the last 3 days. That's rare but I sure haven't wished differently. Sure makes my trouble isolations more ON TARGET ALL THE TIME! To cold to make extra trips up and down those things.

Frigid here as we in Ohio. Past week I've applied for a new job so praying Lord willing to get on with Norfolk Southern Train corp as a Conductor.
Restarted Royal Rangers wed nite finished up firearms safety with teaching on types of ammo and their uses.
My battery gave up the ghost after many charges and jumps ut flatlined. Pain to replace when you have to remove 5 nuts to pull off the metal frame over top of it.
Winter Camp is finally a GO for Feb as I got confirmation Cmdr Donnie is off and I am too. Its been 7 years since the last time we did and the boys that went then still talk about it now! I gotta do a checklist for camping gear see that its ready.

Wow it was almost warm yesterday! 28 degrees seemed like a heat wave after a week of single digit temps & below zero wind chills.
Man we had an awesome service yesterday morning! God was really moving

Re: January Greetings thread
Had our outpost's annual "Cold Weather Camp" this past weekend. Had a great time once we got there.... Yeah, things didn't cooperate leading up to it, but how often does life cooperate??? Gotta make the best of it!
I did fairly well (making the best of it) until Jr, who's 11 going on 20, challenged my advice while packing to go. I first tried to stay upbeat and have a "reasonable" conversation using "logical" options to illustrate my point. His 11 yr old mind wasn't having any of it and continued to see things his way at which point I "Father of the Year'd" on him and lost it. Basically I said I didn't care what he did, but don't expect any help from me! Well that worked THIS time, but I doubt it will when he's 16... Oh well. Sometimes I love how much he's like me, and the rest of the time I hate it.
We had a good time in the field and it was a good camo to get everyone back into the swing after not camping for a couple months. The weather wasn't as cold as we had last year with temps only dipping to the low-mid 20's overnight. Last year we had the low teens. It's amazing how much 10°-12°F makes!
The only thing lost this year was one of the boy's glasses. We looked for awhile, but it was the proverbial "needle in a haystack", so we loaded up and headed home.
It was basically a car camp though we were about 100yds from the trucks. Originally the camp was intended to be a backpacking lite trip, but with all the craziness leading up to our departure and our resulting unpreparedness, we decided to drive in closer than we did last year.
The take away is that even when trips don't go quite as planned, if you make the best of it, you can still have a great time in the woods! Looking forward to the next trip.

Re: January Greetings thread
Winter Camp is a Go at the district level in Feb. If all boys go I'll have a record breaking number of 12 going. We've only been once in 2008 but those memories has lasted for years! This will be as Mark as coined it a "bring your own, cook your own, or go hungry event". We'll likely spring for Fri night snacks and smores. I'm getting many of my first gen boys who are in Youth back for this trip. I will likely give them more responsibilities this time.

Re: January Greetings thread
Was able to make a deal with a guy to buy Phillip Jr's "next step" race bike today! I'm super stoked as the race season is quickly approaching. We haven't gotten in a full season in a few years. We've done well to get in a couple events at best because I either had no money, or was working so much that I had no time. Now after busting my rump for the past two years things are starting to even out a bit and we're going to attempt to tackle a full season.
The bike Jr was on was capable of hitting 60-70 mph on the top end depending on the track, gearing, etc. This new bike will be in the 90-100 mph range. It's an odd feeling to think that your son will probably enter the 100 mph club before he's even 12.... but I LIKE IT!!

You and my flesh and blood brother would be happy to go FASTER! While I was mr safety ridding with a helmet he was riding on one wheel with a big grin on his face. I am thankful God makes us each different as in that is variety and challenge and stretch.
I get people shiver and shake over going hiking out in the woods.... I look at them like they don't have a clue...GRIN! IN this case I am the one that has no clue!
Blessings!

Well it takes risk takers or we'd never break the sound barrier or land on the moon.

Re: January Greetings thread
Had a man steal a truck and trailer in the Gilbert area yesterday morning. The thief shot at a marked police car as it approached him and he sped away eventually crashing the truck. He left on foot into the woods with police searching. The last news report last night about it said that they were still searching for him. All they had for a description was a man in a camo jacket and mask... I don't think he's gonna get found if they didn't already.

Hey wow. Youth finished the free burger and babies ralley and 2 of my AR boys came back.
Last night the Ranger Annex was a blur of making cups, making wooden hinges blanks (18) of them for Winter outing Ranger Derby crafting.
We should have quite a variety at our Winter Outting this year. Wooden Lanterns, Fold up Wooden stools, Powder Horns, Leather craft all kinds, Oak hinges/Hasps. Besides all the neat fellowship and stuff. Rangers is a Cool Ministry.

Montana's season stops around Thanksgiving. Don't want any hunters getting themselves into serious winter trouble.
