Tim Hawkins Concert Empty Tim Hawkins Concert

Post by Claymore August 25th 2014, 8:54 am

On Saturday Night, members from our church went to see a comedy show by Christian Comedian Tim Hawkins, just north of Birmingham, Alabama.

It is about a 2 hour drive, and our youth pastor was driving the Church Bus with about 14 people in it, and there were about 4 cars following the bus.  I was driving our car, with another couple.

Apparently, there was some problem with the speedometer in the Bus, and the youth pastor was using his GPS as a speedometer.  He had gotten ahead of me, was going pretty fast, and I was attempting to catch up, as I had never driven that route before.

As we were going through a town, I saw an oncoming squad car, and I saw him turn on his blue-lights and flip around on the highway.  Yup, he pulled me over.

When the officers walked up to my car, I rolled down the window and said, “Just so you know, I’m retired law enforcement, and I have my firearm.”  They asked to see my license, and I produced it from my wallet, directly across from my badge (Mrs Claymore didn’t raise any stupid kids).

The senior officer said, “Where you from?”, and I said, “Milwaukee, narcotics”.

He said, “Oh, narcotics.  Where you going?”  I said, “To a Christian concert in Birmingham.  I was trying to catch up to the Church Bus.”

He said, “Well, you’d better get going, if you’re going to catch up to it.”, and he handed me back my license.

So that’s not the end of the story.

I learned that, when the youth pastor heard that I got pulled over by the police, he was laughing, giggling, and rocking.  He apparently found great humor in the situation.

So on Sunday, I walked up to him and said, “Hey, you’re right.  It was funny that, out of all of the cars that were in that convoy, I was the one who got pulled over.  And just to show that there are no hard feelings, I want to give you one of my business cards.”

So I handed him my business card.  It had the logo for the Federal Narcotics Task Force on it, identified it as being the Milwaukee High Intensity Drug Enforcement Unit, and had my name as a detective in the Drug-Gangs Task Force.  I said, “Put this in your wallet, and if you ever get pulled over, give it to the Trooper, and he will know what to do.” The youth pastor thanked me, and took the card.

On the back of the card, I had written a note in bold ink, and initialed it.

The note said, “DO NOT GIVE THIS GUY A BREAK!”

Grin. I would have laughed to. Same thing happened to us on the way back from a Backpack 2 vehicles coming down one of the biggest hills in Branson mo if your going 65 and you don't put on the brakes and ride them all the way down that straight piece of 4 lane highway you will get pulled over by the biggest trap site in our state. GRIN! My buddy who was following me got pulled over for a head lamp out and for going 10 mph over the speed limit... the County sheriff also told him I am giving you a warning and you need to tell your buddy to ride the brakes down this hill next time. GRIN!

A bad design by a State worker puts us all at risk of breaking the law going down that hill...only time I see them brake is when the law is present..rest of the time they just roll on along.

I considered it a reminder to by pass my assertion of blame of the state designer and just hit the hill at 45 mph now..it really makes folks behind me mad but it works and I don't have to wear my brakes out for legalism.

The Ranger uniform has gotten me out of many situations where I could have gotten a ticket for some infraction of the rules. That and God's grace!

Post by Mark Jones August 25th 2014, 1:35 pm

Last month. We were floating on the North fork of the White River and at the take out point. We once again met up with the State Parks service.

Last year we were parked in the wrong place taking up 3 parking spots with our trailers. They told us we were in the wrong and we should have parked down by the river. Well this year we parked down by the river and were told we needed to park up where we parked the year before.

I laughed and said. You know I know your just trying to do your job and I appreciate that but we did what we did because last year you guys told us to do this and now your telling us to do what we did last year. I grinned at him and said we had a great time and didn't have any issues we cleaned up the river as we went and if you will tell me where to park this time I will try and do it next year.

He said I was going to give you a ticket but since your with a scout group I won't. Just a warning.

I do my best to avoid places that I take the boys that have personnel on site. So many rules and they change daily. GRIN!

Yes, the rules and laws change constantly and many times with officer you're dealing with too. I've heard some will cut a CHL holder a break.

Claymore, do most officers ask for you hand over the firearm or prefer you keep your hands on the wheel?  I'm glad being a prior LEO helps you but that sort of thig is what irks many who cry double standard. I break a law and get slapped hard but a LEO or retired/former LEO is let go easy. Shouldn't the enforcers be more accountable than myself?

Mark, somethings appear to be designed to entrap motorists for revenue generation. GA is infamous for small town speedtraps where mph limits change frequently and often enough to get you busted. A deputy in a Nevada county is being investigated for pulling drivers over for doing a mere 3 mph over limit. One guy had his casino winnings (cash) taken in asset forfeiture. Only a handgun was found which is not illegal in your car and no drugs no priors. He's fighting it.

So do you have a problem with Mark getting a break because he has his "Scout Leader Uniform"?

So how 'bout that?  Should the cops not give them any courtesy?

Daisy sells $200.00 Champion Match BB-Guns to Royal Ranger Outposts for $90.00: that ain't right! Why shouldn't the customers at the Hardware Store get the same price?

Shall we continue?

It's always been who you know. It's the code red of the Free Interprise system. Not a published thing but it goes on in the real world. There's always hope that one will extend grace for someone.

I extend Grace more times than I extend the law.

Some years ago, I made a left turn on a late yellow and got pulled over. The LEO took my info and went back to his vehicle to run me. When he came back to my window, he asked if I was an officer. I had a blue DOD window sticker, so the obvious answer to the question was "yes." Told me to be careful next time and let me go on.

Couple of hours later, it hit me. At the time, I was working in a military prison and our license plate numbers were blocked for law enforcement/security reasons. Couldn't have ex-prisoners or their friends getting our home addresses and getting even with us. So the LEO thought I was a police officer, not a naval officer. Professional courtesy.

Bruce, there is a greater-than-not chance that, even if he knew that you were not Law Enforcement but worked in a prison, you would have gotten consideration.

The reason is pretty simple.  People who must work under extreme conditions at the risk of their own lives for the protection of Society respect other people who do the same.

Cops give consideration to all sorts of people, because they know that they are not Dirt-Balls.  I have given breaks to old ladies, because I felt that a warning was enough to have them drive safer (and one Old Bat chewed me out for giving her a warning).  I have given breaks to ministers, because I respected that they are working to make this a better world.  One afternoon, I even told my partner that I was giving a break to a fat homely woman (with her want-to-be weight on her license) whom we stopped for speeding, because "She didn't get a fair shake in life, like the pretty ones".

So if anyone is offended, I am sorry that you are not a fat homely woman.

AWESOME!

I laughed until I teared.

One part he talked about "Bible Hijackers". He said that he thought that it must be people who went to other people's Bibles and highlighted things. He said that if he Hijacked a bible, it would be some old woman's Bible, and he would underline things that didn't make sense and make her wonder what had made her highlight those verses, "Thou shalt not boil a kid in the milk of its own mother". Gee. I wonder what that relates to. scratch

He also made "light" of the parking lot in this mega-church, because (to remember where you were parked) the parking lot was divided up into sections named after virtues, "Faith, Charity, Love".

He said, "So what's in the back of the church, the Seven Deadly Sins?"

"Where are you parked?"

"Sloth......I was going to park in Gluttony, but they were all taking up two spaces."

You're probably right. On a related tack, I don't see discounts, etc. for LEOs, like members of the military get.

You're right.

I don't see special discounts for us like Wal-Mart employees get, either. So why are they a favored class in the Nation's largest Retailer? We all need food & clothes.

The difference between cops and wal-mart associates is public servant vs private sector. We directly generate profit for the company.

I guess Lady Justice is not no blind after all. I meant no offense just to me law is supposed to apply equally to all. As a guy I realize a pretty lady, old lady, scouts, etc will get more warnings than tix. I was once given a break on having a wooden billy club in my front compartment of my car in MD. In MD its morally superior to get beat by the criminal than to fight back... He sympathized and let me stow it in my trunk. Not everyone is so privileged.
