What does that mean??? Empty What does that mean???

Post by Phillip Gross July 19th 2014, 7:39 am

I had a humorous observation the other day that I just remembered. We were having our COA Sunday which was also our covered dish and baptismal Sunday. Our church is small and doesn't have a permanent baptismal, so we brought in a small outdoor pool (the kind with the inflatable ring that rises with the water level) to baptize. The pastor was in the pool talking about something candidly with those of us gathered around during the introduction and used "SNAFU" in a sentence. I got a good internal laugh because I know he knows that it means something "messed up", but I also know he doesn't (didn't) know what it actually meant.... Laughing

Now many, or all of us may know what all the different acronyms mean, but just in case there's some we don't already know this thread could potentially help prevent us from inserting a foot in our mouths one day. I think the ones below are very common to us, but are there others that you've heard that someone else may not already know? I remember years ago when I thought "LOL" meant "Lots of Love". I thought there were a lot of people who loved me. Laughing

We could also include other military terminology in case there's things we don't already know. The other day I texted "10-4" to one of my guys (fresh out of highschool) after a short text exchange. He quickly called sounding very confused and asked "What does ten to four mean?" What does that mean??? Facepalm-gesture-smiley-emoticon

So whatcha got?

LOL = Laugh Out Loud  Embarassed
CWYC = Call When You Can
NP = No Problem
SHTF = "Poo" Hits The Fan
SNAFU = Situation Normal All F'd Up
TARFU = Things Are Really F'd Up
FUBAR = F'd Up Beyond All Repair
TEOTWAWKI = The End Of The World As We Know It
What's your 10-20 (or just 20) = What's your location

Just last week, I heard a lady on the radio or TV state that she thought that "LOL" was Lots of Love.

Someone had posted about having a death in the family.

She replied.....(you guessed it).

To me SHTF could be Scat Hits the Fan too.

A deacon I worked with onced used MOFO had no idea what he was saying lol not lots of Love. I never heard of 10-20. FUBR I thought was beyond recognition.

The R may stand for Recognition, but I was pretty sure there was an A in there to make it a word.
