My son has extended family visiting, including a gent from Mexico City. While they're camping at the lake, I was asked to tape the World Cup final for them to watch later.

Jack Bauer fans...SPOILER ALERT!  Shocked

I was hoping for it, but still frustrated by it. Watched the last "24" episode tonight, but another season seems likely.

Noticed an unusual splash of black in the tall grass and went out to investigate. An older, Lab mix laying down. She has major arthritis in the back haunches. Fed and watered her and she walked around a bit. No identifying tags on the collar. I think someone dropped her off and drove away. If she's still around in a couple of days, I'll have to call her in for a pick up before I go camping. Don't want to come back and find her carcass. Unfortunately, the shelter will probably put her down anyway. Too bad her owner didn't do it.

Well we move in two weeks to the new compound...  Laughing And just in time for that, all the jobs that I bid on over the past couple months have come through and everyone wants us on site now. So now I've got the whole company working 6 12's to try to keep up with the workload, and it'll probably be like that for the next 4-6 months. I'm really hoping that once we get traction on these projects that we'll be able to cut back to 5 days a week, because Sundays are nowhere near a day of rest for me. I start at 6am practicing for P&W, after church is lunch and a couple hours of prep time, then Rangers (except for July which we're taking off). Then I head back out of town to Charleston to start it all over again. Oh well, we'll figure out moving somehow or another...  Cool

As many of you know I've been on a weight loss program since Feb. Since then I've been exercising and watching my caloric intake. At first I used the "Loseit" app on my smartphone but have switched over to "MyFitnessPal". I use it to track calories and exercise calories I've burned. I've dropped over 50 lbs going from 300 to 248.4 lbs as of today. I think this is my midlife crisis  Very Happy I was turning 38 in April.  Other reasons for getting healthy and fit is for more energy, eliminate the need for a cpap device, and possibly in the event of harder times coming. I'm glad I've lost more weight since my CPAP blower gave up the Katra... The effects of sleep apnea have diminished greatly but hopefully should dissapear altogether as I get below 200 lbs.

All in all since '07 I've lost 110 lbs and 50 lbs of that just this year. At this rate I'll drop another 50 lbs by Nov.

Thanks Claymore. I'm going for 3 rucksacks. Shooting for 185. If I had only done this in my teens I would have been carrying a rucksack.

Good point arcliner. When I'm in uniform next time I'll do a "selfie"...

How tall are you Dan?

I've put on about 25 lbs in the past 10 years going from a skinny 175 to a thinish 200. I'm 6'2", so it's not terrible, but I can see it a little in my mid section. The biggest issue I have is that I just don't "feel" as energetic as I'd like to. I'm hoping the cycling will help get me into better shape and trim back down a tad.

I know that working out will make me feel better, but getting started is the tough part. I physically work hard most days when I'm not in the office taking care of paperwork, so I'm tired most of the time. I know getting healthier is more of a one two punch though. Just working out without paying attention to nutrition and sleep will only wear me down more. But in the past when I worked out I naturally started paying attention to the type of "fuel" I took in and got militant with my sleep schedule. In fact as I think about it, sleep is probably my #1 issue as I usually only get 5-6 hrs per night. I know I perform better on regular 8 hr nights, but I've got a bad habit of wasting time in the evenings. Usually online....  Rolling Eyes

I've put on 185 pounds since I was born, most of it while I was in school. I blame my lunchrooms for not following Michelle Obama's food regulations.

My spine got compressed by 1 1/2 inches after my plane crash.

So I can now say that I am not fat,
...I'm just short for my weight!

That's intense! Did you completely pulverize a couple vertebra, or just a little on each one? Did it affect your spinal cord?

I have an anomaly in my 4th and 5th L that cause me to need to get adjusted at the chiropractor regularly, so I sympathize with anyone that has back issues.

I had intense back pain in the '90s caused by two slip disc pinching nerves. Both of the cervical disc were removed and replaced with processed bone and fused over with a plate. After my rollover accident in Jan 2012 I had intense back and shoulder pain that took a few months to recover. Even with steroids, muscle relaxers, and narcotic pain meds wouldn't kill it. There were times I wished for death. I can only imagine have my spine compressed in a plane crash.

That is a good one Claymore being too short for your weight.

Without whining too much about my "Boo-Boos", it was diagnosed as "Fracture of the L-3 and L-5, with a Burst Fracture of the L-4". So part of the L-4 broke off, floated up and attached to the upper vertebra, and left a few bone fragments that float around & cause mischief.

Now instead of looking like a doughnut with little wings, my L-4 looks like a letter "C" with little wings.

That hastened my retirement. One bad bar-fight and getting kicked on my butt could paralyze me for life. But hey, better to be 5' 8 1/2" with a compressed spine than to be 4' 2" in a wheel-chair.

My wife said that I can fly, again, whenever I want to.

(She also tells me that I definitely do not want to.)

Funny how wives let you do things they "know" you don't want to do. Speaking of flying what y'all think of the Malaysia airlines plane that was shot down in. Ukraine? Obama barely batted an eye but yet "cries" when 26 Amercan school kids/adults get "allegedly" shot by an Aspergers kid.

When I first read through your post I thought you said "an Asparagus kid". I thought, "Oh NO. The Veggie Tales have flipped a switch!" Laughing

As far as Obama goes, he's as fake as an Elvis impersonator at a local fair in Des Moines. I have a feeling (that I hope I'm wrong about), that his "leadership" will thrust us into WWIII, complete economic meltdown, or both, very soon.

The wife has been gone all afternoon with her county fair volunteering, getting the quilting exhibit ready. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I've been doing an extreme room makeover that she doesn't know about. Done with 15 minutes to go. Felt like one of those reality shows where they're trying to beat a deadline.

Our little "cabin" room really looks like one now. $204, along with a castaway wood stove that I fixed up, really did the trick. I'll be immune from any trouble for weeks!
