Woo Whoo Rangers it's a Good Friday Backpack and Float!
19 of us are heading out for a overnight backpack (easy) then float 8.5 miles on Saturday in canoes and kayaks.
April 18th, 2014. Good Friday. Temps in the low of 48 and a hi in the mid 70 degrees and sunny with an occasional cloud and the water is at a perfect level for floating.
Please keep us in prayer for this event. Rangers and Friends of Rangers heading out for the Glory of God.

In Montana, springtime river floats are rather dangerous, due to the snowmelt. Higher water levels camouflage all the dangers, like submerged trees. A couple years ago, 5 people drowned getting caught. Keep your eyes open and I'll be praying at this end.

Went to my son's for an overnight. Today was so nice he said "Let's go kayaking!" The Missouri was a bit swift, so the upstream paddle was a workout. We came around one bend to find about 200 vehicles from the 30's and 40's partially exposed on the riverbank. Probably used to slow down the erosion.

This just hurts my heart to think what could be buried in that bank...

Hey we had a great time. 20 there. Backpacking was perfect. Floating was even better....lots of flips and fun. Even did the day hike in the middle of it.
That river and campground was full. Parking spots were a premium...
Had a flat on the canoe trailer but had that fixed in 15 minutes. Lost 2 paddles but that's easily fixed.
WE did a 600 dollar float for about 75.00 in costs..outside of food and gas getting there.
Just a perfect weekend. A pefect Good Friday and Saturday morning waking up..was awesome!
will post report and pictures later this week.

Mark, please tell us your techniques for Cost-Savings.
Thanks.

Ask around and find someone that has canoes and kayaks and befriend them. That comes with a handshake it will come back better than you found it.
We lost more on this trip than the last 4 trips..GRIN!
Canoe rental and shuttles are about 50.00 per canoe. Kayaks are about 30.00. We did our own shuttleing as well.
With it bring your own cook your own or go hungry. It costs about right. I still have to pickup a 30 spot at McDonalds for those that have no money each time and the gas for my truck. So events cost money.
I get a kick out of Church politics. They want a disclaimer "this is not a Central AOG sponcered event" and they tell us to go out and do small groups and preach the gospel.... and yet for insurance reasons they tell us to post a "this is not a central aog sponcered event". The foolishness of man. Is your faith in God or is it in your insurance premiums?
I just find it funny how fickle we are and God still loves us inspite of ourselves.

The Hunter Safety Instructor Association has a Free Million Dollar Liability Insurance Policy for Instructors while teaching Any Firearms Course.
So for about $30.00 per year, we have a Million in Coverage, and I have a Million in Personal Liability where my shooting range is, so there should be 2 Million in Liability Coverage between any Shooting Event and the Church.
Our Pastor Loves to hear that.
So we announce that all of our Firearms Safety Courses are sponsored by the Royal Rangers.
Also, I can deduct the $30.00 from my Income Taxes each year (Membership Fees in a State-Supported Educational Association).

Re: Woo Whoo Rangers it's a Good Friday Backpack and Float!
That's just bazaar to me. We upped our policy just BECAUSE of RR and the events we do, and knowing that there are some people that are always looking for a payout. Our pastor wants us to make the trips official church trips just so we're covered in the event of an accident. Unfortunately some people are looking for a payout... We minister to children of interesting family backgrounds at times. We can't let fear stop us from doing things. Yes, we have insurance, but we trust God for His protection.Mark Jones wrote:

I'm glad that you guys had a good time. We'd love to get into canoeing in the future. What about tubing trips in the summer? Do you guys do that? If so, how well does that work with the gear?

Re: Woo Whoo Rangers it's a Good Friday Backpack and Float!
Well. I have not figured out just yet. They hows and the whys. They on one hand are very generous and hold big events inviting other churches and on the other and they say we can't have anyone stay over night in our Ranger building for a lock in unless they are members of our outpost. Evangelizim. Rangers are supposed to invite their friends..that is how it grows. HELLO! I just grin at them and keep doing what I know to do and "With God's Help, I will do my best to serve God, my church and my fellow man." ]

Good Point, Mark.
Pentecostals are seen by some as "Cult-ish" (and, occasionally, with Good-Reason).
One of the best ways to foster that Notion is by keeping Events & Worship closed from anyone other than Members.
