Sam's Throne Rappel and Backpack
March 14th and 15th we once again head to Sam's Throne. A State park setup for Rock climbing and Rappelling and camping. Nothing there except they did put in a portapottie.
We have about 5 different church's attending and looking forward to getting the rock faces a closer look. Last year we camped up on top of the Throne (about a mile backpack along the bottom of a 100 foot cliff over to another rock outcropping of 100 foot drops. It's a cool place.
If your in the neighborhood come on out and join us.

Re: Sam's Throne Rappel and Backpack
Praise the Lord. We had 9 people at the local climbing gym get belay certified. This weekend we have about 25 souls heading out for camping and rappelling.
Just finished putting my backpack together and getting my grub sack together and stached in the fridge.
Came down with a sore throat and cold a day or so back so it's slowing me down a bit.
Went over the Climb on Safely and the Rappelling merit guides and watched the 6 video clips I use for refreshers.
We are Ready. Weather forecast is 47 for a low and a high o 62 with a 30% chance of rain in the afternoon on Saturday.
A perfect forecast. Very much like last years.
I have 3 ropes and and gear ready to double check in the morning and we will be set.
Just have to hustle the outpost trailer down here to Ozark and gas it all up and we are ready with 3 vehicles going.
Friday night we will backpack down a steep trail down about 50 feet to a trail that follows the bluff over to the Sam's Throne outcrop. Climb up there and camp out on top! Woo whoo Rangers. It's gonna be GREAT!

Mark you keep talking about this stuff, I may take you up on it.
In conversation I mention the Batcave camp to my boys and they got real jealous

You already took'em to Camporama why not goto the batcave? It sure couldn't cost more than $275 a head plus travel expenses.

Re: Sam's Throne Rappel and Backpack
You guys are always welcome.
We had a great turnout on this event. I did for the first time in 20 years 30 outtings a year splint a broken ankle and haul the boy out over a mile of trail. Report and pictures found below. We (several commanders) told the boy several times not to be climbing around with out a rope. He might listen next time.

Re: Sam's Throne Rappel and Backpack
Bat cave is in January each year. It's worth the drive. I have had them drive in 11 hours to make the trip. The event is Friday night at 5:30 pm to about 1pm the next day. That's enough to get it all and be ready to go home. GRIN!

Re: Sam's Throne Rappel and Backpack
May still be some bats in the cave then. It's a summer haven for the bats..not sure when they leave the area... it would be before the bugs are gone. (No food to eat)
