Best Open Carry Pistol?
My wife may be starting a job with a government entity that doesn't "require" their employees carry, but "strongly suggests" they open carry while on the clock and conceal at all other times. I bought her a Sig Sauer P238 several years ago for concealed carry, although she never went to take the course. She will now need to go take the course and get her CWP and then open carry on the clock (provided she in fact gets this position). So my question is, what would be the best open carry side arm for a lady? My knee-jerk is a Sig Sauer because the action on the P238 is so smooth for her. But what say you?

What caliber are you thinking of?

I guess 9mm for her. I don't see her doing .40 or .45. I'm just thinking a full frame vs a concealed carry weapon. But of course it needs to be buttery like her Sig is.

Re: Best Open Carry Pistol?
It looks like the Sig 1911 Ultra Compact 9mm might fit your needs. Controls & action the same as her Sig. Only a bump up in size and power.
I only saw a couple of photos of your family, but I think that I recall that your wife is considerably smaller than most of us. For that reason, I would not go with a full-sized 9mm pistol. If she finds it to be too uncomfortable and in the way, she may elect to leave it at home.

Re: Best Open Carry Pistol?
If she likes the P238 & shoots it well, why not just use that?

I guess I was thinking that a larger frame for full hand grip and more rounds would be good.

I’ve been recalled to duty by personal request…
There are several variations of the P320 to consider since you’re big fans of Sig Sauer.

Re: Best Open Carry Pistol?
It doesn't necessarily need to be a Sig, but a smooth action is important. When firing her p238 vs my Ruger LCP there is a world of difference. I like my LCP because it fits so nicely in my pocket, but it's not a pleasure to shoot like the Sig. That's my only experience with comparison, thus my question to you guys. Just trying to lay the foundation as to why. Looking for the what.

I also like the Glock 17 that’s a no brainer, Springfield XDM Elite, and Beretta PX4 Storm has a rotating barrel instead of flipping up with a safety/decocker. The decocker can be upgraded to type F I think it’s F that is decocker only. I prefer no manual safeties.
Does she prefer safeties or single stack?

I'm not sure she knows that to be honest. What I think I should do is find a few possibilities and then go test fire them at a local range to see what feels right to her.

Re: Best Open Carry Pistol?
I have it in the 4 1/4" version (not the super compact "Elite").
Love it. Firm, handy, weighs less than a 1911, and you should NOT come out in second place in a fight.
