It (along with 4ga) was used for commercial hunting in the 1920s & 30s
they were mounted in the front of a small boat & would sweep the sky of birds.

it is the reason the passenger pigeon is extinct.

OK. Trivia question.

Do you know what the Standard is that designates that this is a 2 Gauge?

(And saying that it is the bore diameter is an incomplete answer.)

Gauge is how many round balls of that diameter it would take to make a pound.

Right On!

So a single round-ball slug for that shotgun would weigh 1/2 pound. Ouch!

Can  I shoot through the door with that...?

The only exception is the .410 is a caliber and not a gauge. Question, why is it called .410 instead of .41?  I notice 3 digits seem to indicate high power rounds and 2 digits are low powered rounds.

I would also guess that it was also to keep it from being confused with the .41 Rimfire (used in the Remington Derringers) and the .41 Long Colt Revolver Load.

I wonder what the gauge would be if we added the roundballs up from a .410 shotgu to equal a pound.
