We had 7" of blowing rain. I am working all weekend.  Those Broadband connections just suck up that water and leave a screen full of errors.  Cha Ching!

It's going to be a busy week for Rangers.
Getting a new Dewalt planer for the outpost.
Going backpacking Friday night day hike on Saturday be back Sat night. Guessing 14 going.
All week getting Awards for the group commanders for their boys.  Certifying, Ordering, Printing Certificates with one button click.
Then Sunday we go to the Timber Trip2 and harvest more Cedar.
Of course I will be working my day off this week as well.  Cha Ching.

Money for more mad money Ranger things!

I was off yesterday. Our churches digital projector died. I found a repair place in the Detroit area. So I got my Glock out & headed off for Detroit. Its only 90 miles, but the traffic was so bad it took me 2 hours each way. Rolling Eyes  rained all the way back rain

Does anyone have a link for Primitive Shooting Sticks?

I think that I'm going to use some 3 year-old trees (need to thin some out on the property).

It seems to me that there was a lashing that was about perfect for the cross-piece.

Today, while cleaning my man-cave as some call it I was checking my bug-out bag. I found a box of Coglahn's survival matches the ones with kindling included. I glanced over at a watertight cell phone case I had bought it from Walmart's camping section awhile ago. I slid the first row of connected survival matches inside and broke up the rest of the second row. With a little trimming off of the connective kindling I was able to fit all of the matches inside. I cut the striking surface off the box and inserted inside the cap.

If I ever have to "Bug Out", it will be to somewhere that has Commanding High Ground, plenty of trees for fuel, lots of wild game, has a Population Density of 44 persons per Square Mile, and 'most everyone is Armed and distrusts the Government.

Oh!

Never Mind.

I'm already here.

Post by RRCmdrBennett November 2nd 2013, 11:51 pm

Unfortunately, too many Christians use the promise of Christ's return as a beam me up card when hard times come they think the starship Enterprise is ready to teleport them out. Throughout history we've suffered persecution, prosecution, and death. Why should 21st century Christians expect any less?  While our hope and faith is in the Lord our Motto is still Ready: Ready for Anything. Plenty of examples where Christians fled or as I call it Bug-out when towns turned against them. If I die maybe my supplies will help an unsaved person live to accept Christ too.

Even if its not a total collapse scenario recent weather like wildfires, tornadoes, hurricane Sandy, etc is reason enough to Be Prepared or get Ready for Anything.

Claymore,

I have both scenarios in mind: bug-out or hunker down. I live in a small town of 2,000 residents with 8,000+ college kids. Some live in big cities and others are rural. Each has advantages and disadvantages. In your experience I'm sure you've been in situations where you had to abandon your position.

There was a saying in Special Forces:

"Fixed Fortifications are Monuments to Men's Stupidity"

However, if you're over 60 years old, 50 pounds over your "Fighting Weight", and have your own reloading setup;

-Somebody has to be the First Sergeant at the Base Camp and Support the Troops-

It's a long hike from Ohio....and over the Appalachian Mountains.

I hope that Daniel Boone (or "Tory" James G. Gunn) was one of your ancestors.

If everything falls apart, I'm stocked up and able to manage without the grid. If it really gets bad, I'm mobile. One (GMA) son and his family is nearby and ready as well. Unfortunately, my other son and his wife up north are both in the "first responder" category. By oath, they stay put and help those less fortunate (or too stupid).

Post by Claymore November 11th 2013, 11:10 pm

Today was first day of "Primitive Weapon" Season in Mississippi.

I grabbed my .35 Whelen with illuminated scope (....love them Mississippi Game Laws) & took my 9 year-old niece up in the stand.

She had never been deer hunting before, and every stump looked like a deer to her (baby waiting for its mama).

Then a little over an hour, her eyes got wide, & she said, "Deer, deer!"  It was a nice big dark deer, but it was moving quickly enough from my left-to-right, that I couldn't get a shot before I couldn't swing my rifle past the window of the stand.

Still a success!  She went deer hunting for the first time.  She saw the deer.  No trauma of seeing "Bambischlagen".

My Detachment did extended training in Skiing & Cold Weather Ops.

We did a Field Mission in Alaska in January with no tents (burrow into a snow drift & erect Poncho Hooches).

To tell the truth, I was colder (actually flippin' miserable) doing Winter Training in Northern Minnesota.

When I started as a Patrol Officer in Wisconsin, I was standing out in the weather investigating & writing accident reports in the winter.

And THAT, boys & girls, is why I have moved to Mississippi.

1. Fire arms.... something that you need to be in a club with licences or you are in National Services (Army, Police, etc...)

2. Snow.... it will be a miracle to have one here (which i wish it will happen! Prefer this than rain! )

Even here in Missouri. When the wind gets to blowing and it's 20 outside..nothing colder than 30 feet in the air on a utility pole. That's cold. Get up. Get er done and Get DOWN!
