Well my wife pulled the trigger on home schooling our kids Sunday night. She made her final decision and they just didn't go back to public screwl Monday morning! They're spending this week going through some curriculums to see what fits best for each of the kids. There are many reasons we didn't like the PSS (public school system), but one major one is that they try to fit students into boxes instead of tayloring the education for each individual student. There's no way a bloated government can make standard requirements across the board for the entire nation and have it be effective. Of course we all know that the whole reason the federal gov is involved in school anyway is for indoctrination anyway. I'll let you know how it goes.

The boys that I had excell at merits were Home-Schooled.

Their Moms used the Merit Advancements & Requirements as part of their Home School Curriculum: Astronomy, Bible Reading, Hobby, Presidents, Reading, Wildlife, etc.

Then they sent the paperwork to me, showing that they fulfilled the requirements, & the boys got the awards.

(Can you imagine the kind of "education" they could get, if they wanted to pursue FCF as part of their Curriculum? Grizzly Merits, Making Clothes & Kit, Tanning Hides, Studying Heritage History, Developing Charactor Persona, etc.)

My daughter went to Kindergarten. My wife pulled her out and started homeschooling. Then joined a Christian school and both of our kids were in it until my daughter became a sophomore in highschool and went to public school. She said she felt like the Lord was leading her there. She has had a nightly devotion with God every night since she was old enough to read on her own. At the age of 26 she is still at it. Went to public school and they called her the Jesus Girl. She brought her bible to school and it sat on her desk. They elected her Prom Queen out of 1500 students. My son was home schooled through High school graduation.

Both of my kids love God and were/are virgins until they marry. I attribute this to Homeschooling and Christian education as well as living the life before them. None perfect but trying to live the life.

Its amazing how hotly debated this topic is among Christians. Some want to keep their kids in pss from K-12 stating that its their mission field. Yet, I see our "Christian" church kids act and look like the worldly ones they go to school with everyday. Personally, I don't think 5-12 years olds are adequately prepared or mature enough mentally and spiritually to be a missionary to their classmates. I think training and maturity that comes with age is needed before we assume our kids are a light unto their schools.

Your daughter had the time to grow strong spiritually without being bombarded by the enemy.

If I have kids someday I don't plan on risking their eternal destiny on some notion that they will be a pss missionary.

Mark, may I ask why your daughter chose to enter the pss during her sophomore year?

Philip, I echo your sentiments on the feds getting involved in our State's education system. They are meddling in every aspect of our lives. I wouldn't be surprised if the feds didn't issue an executive order forcing States to allow gay marriage too.

My church prior to me coming here had planned on a two story Christian School to be run by us. The board at that time was split on the idea of a school so it never happened. Now there are many homeschool parents including our Sr Pastors. I think we could offer our homeschool families a place to meet and use our resources.

(I actually know the answer. I was just putting it out to agitate things.)

I don't know but would believe getting custom made education from a dedicated parent is superior to pss cookie cutter style.

I tracked down my store mgr today to ask him a question on whether I can put ammo in layaway. He authorized for me to put 2 - American Eagle 150 rounds of 5.56mm into layaway. With my 10% off I saved $7 each plus the bulk savings of $8.53 over buying equal amounts of the smaller boxes. Each round comes to .37 cents. On top of that I threw in a soft tactical rifle case. I may upgrade to a hardcase later.

The SHORT Answer is "Parental Involvement".

The Longer Answer is the above, plus not being fed a bunch of
Politically-Correct Dog Squeezings that replace basic knowledge in Science, Math, English, & History/Government.

Is there a corresponding relationship between high parental involvement with kids in the PSS and score placement? Just my opinion I think while homeschooling require high level of parent involvement PSS doesn't require much unless your kid is in trouble. Everyone touts how PSS provides for "socialization" and that homeschoolers lack it.

The stigma some attached to homeschoolers is so bad some tee shirt makers thought it would be funny to make a tee shirt that says I was homeschooled but all mispelled. JCPenny immediately pulled it.

Absolutely!!

Public School kids whose parents are involved, check that they are doing their homework and monitoring their progress are, very often, at the higher end of their class.

However a good percentage of the above will not show up in public schools, because often if the parents are concerned & involved (and have enough money) they will place their kids in private schools.

Did you know that the professions with some of the highest rate of kids in private schools are Teachers and Police Officers?

Conversely, those kids who are "raising themselves" wind up being in street gangs or dropping out of school.

Those kids need family...the gang becomes family. I believe our society wants kids to be more reliant on government PSS than independent.

Yes it was. I'm not recommending that anyone go watch it if you haven't seen it already, because it has a lot of foul language, but there was a movie made called "Idiocracy" that pretty much sums up where we're heading as a country. And it IS by design. The only way you can have "useful idiots" is to have idiots that are ignorant and lack the ability to reason.

Seems like they're trying to use plays out of both the Bolshevik and Nazi play books. Using the uneducated masses (Bolsheviks), and blatantly indoctrinating the youngest in our society (Hitler Youth). Next comes the removal of those who try to oppose....

Had a good outpost meeting tonight. One of the other commanders brought a cookie cake and the outpost sang "Happy Birthday" to me as Friday the 4th was my birthday. It was fun to celebrate with all the Rangers and AHG's.

I also had a heart to heart with my AR/ER class. I laid it all out about FCF and what it was going to take and then asked what THEY wanted to do. I love how God made boys! You could see the excitement creep into their eyes as I laid out the challenge ahead. I'm always very honest with them and was tonight too. I said our first goal was to get the outpost up and running, and we did, but that it seemed like we were getting into a monotonous routine in our outpost meetings. I asked them if they had felt that way too, (I knew already by their waning enthusiasm) and they agreed. I said it was because they need to know the next goal. As in baseball, if you only focus on first base and quit when you get there then you lose the game. When you achieve first base you look toward second and keep moving. I made the case for FCF for the one who had been absent recently and reiterated it for the other who has been there. They seemed truly reignited and worked hard. Now,... we'll see if this continues, but I think it will. You can't guarantee that things started will finish, but you can absolutely guarantee that something that never starts will in fact never finish!

Another good day at the track. Jr is continuing to develop his skills. We worked on clutchless speed shifting today and making sure he used the best lines through the corners. We have one more track day next Saturday, then a weekend off when we go camping, followed by the big event out in Birmingham the last weekend of the month.

Been up getting permission slips going for the Timber Trip next sunday and the Backpack to the top of Hemmend in Hollow (extreme adventure)  1100 foot drop in elevation and a walk along the cliffs over looking the Buffalo River.  Very cool place but it's going to be a walk out for sure.

http://readyrangers.tzo.com/comptontotopofhemmendinfalls.pdf

We have a leaders meeting this afternoon before my Rangers normal meeting and I am doing the devotion.  I genearlly only do the devotions at some campouts as I don't want to do it all.  Others grow when they do the doing.
