November Greetings Thread - Page 3 Empty Re: November Greetings Thread

Post by Phillip Gross November 20th 2013, 8:12 pm

I started travelling for work in '96. I go through seasons based on where our contracts are. Sometimes I'm home every night. Other times it's head out on Monday until Thursday or Friday night. Right now just happens to out of town every week.

Looking forward to an extended weekend next week for Thanksgiving. Can y'all believe it's already near the end of 2013??? Seems like yesterday that it was New Years eve '99 as we waited for Y2K to hit! Laughing

Yeah.  But it wasn't for a lack of trying.

Talked to a guy yesterday who claimed he was never into MSR's at all. He hunted regularly and had plenty of hunting guns from rifles to shotguns, but no MSR until our gov threatened the removal of them. Made my heart glad to hear of Americans willing to rise up when they feel pushed.

Reminds me of a comment a Gander Mtn associate said someone bought an AR-15 and asked how to clean it but also said he wasn't going to shoot it. He just wanted it cause they were calling for a ban. I've always wanted one but back then they were too much $. Now a decent make and model has become affordable. I never wanted to go dirt cheap but couldn't break the budget for one either. I really do have Obama to thank for reducing the price point to fit my budget! Thanks Mr. President!

Back when Bill Klinton was president, his push was to ban/restrict handguns.

I purchased 4 frames for Colt .45 Automatics. I still have three left to put together.

November Greetings Thread - Page 3 Empty Re: November Greetings Thread

Post by Phillip Gross November 23rd 2013, 11:46 pm

Last night and tonight we've had sporadic gun shots. We live in the county outside of city limits, so shooting isn't necessarily against the law. Our "neighborhood" is a loose one at best. Dirt road, all homes sit on 1 or more acre, no consistency in house style, etc.

The shots sound like a shotgun as opposed to the crack of a rifle or pistol. I also believe that it's coming from the house a couple lots down on the other side of the road. A younger guy who's had live-ins and is kind of out there. I hypothesize that he's down there drinking and firing off the occasional round. Because of my hypothesis I'm reluctant to walk down there. Nothing like a drunk with a gun. I also don't want to call the "Po Po" just yet.

So what say y'all? What would you do?

Do you have armadillos in your area?

When gunshots come from my property after dark, it is because one of those rats-in-a-halfshell is getting dispatched.

Of course, I don't have a couple cans of "group tightener" prior to shooting those.

It could be either armadillos or more possibly coons around here, but the shot spacings and the fact that they're all from the same distance from my home makes me believe it's NOT hunting, but rather random shots from a backyard.

Any coyotes in the area?  Is he a hunter who maybe poaching on deer on his property in an off season?  Shotgun might be good for close range deer hunt.

I might catch him during the day when he's less fueled by liquid courage and asked if ge heard shotgun blasts. If he confirms it was him ask if he's shooting predators after dark.

Also listen for loud music and screaming. Drunks to have both turned up when imbibing.

Speaking of MSR's in particular my AR-15 I did a demonstration and discussion of the function and parts of it two Wed nights ago. This last Wed a boy said he surprised a vocational school intructor with his knowledge of the parts of the AR-15 they were showing during a field trip to the JVS trades school. He asked him where he learned that and said it was from me at church. Nice to know someone is listenign and retaining what I teach.

Just looked at the forecast for my area and it looks like that vile weather from the evil north is making it's way towards us. They're calling for an 80% chance of snow/sleet tomorrow night. I don't remember ever getting snow this early in South Heaven Carolina. Usually it's January or February, but we did have a wintry mix in Dec a couple years ago. Never in November though... What happened to that global warming that Al Gore promised me??? I thought I'd have tropical beach front property before too long! Not MORE snow!

I got a letter from one of my former Rangers who did a tour in Iraq with the Army.

He said that, after Royal Rangers, Basic Training was just a big Review. He said that he already knew Formations, Pugil Sticks, Camping, Map & Compass, and Rifle Marksmanship. He said that other troops thought that their compass course was impossible, and he said that it was easy.

After reading his letter, I said, "Son of a Gun. Some of them Were Listening!"

How would you like to have a job that you could constantly change what you say, still be wrong money of the time, and not get fired? Weather men and Obama have about the same job requirements....

We showed Billy Graham's special that they aired on his 95th b'day at church this morning. Wow. Definitely brought tears to my eyes. I enjoy in depth Biblical studies, but the simple message of the cross still stops me in my tracks and brings it all home!

Encourage anyone who hasn't already watched it to get a hold of it.

I agree. We preach Jesus and Him crusified.  The power is in the blood.  God honors that scacrafice and blesses it.  It is the simple Gospel.  Yet in it is the power for salvation and sancttification.  Yesterday, today and tommarrow.   It is God's only plan for us.   Simple yet many can't grasp it.  They can't seem to hang on to it long enough to keep them out of wrong doctorine.

So many churches have gotten their eyes off Christ and what He did there and have moved on to other things.  That is the main reason the Church is in such bad shape....after we leave the cross what have we left?  Pscycology?  Works?  Social gospel?  Prosperty gospel?  Speak it into existance gospel?  All these things are based in self.  Something we can do or about self.  Simple gospel says to deny self.  Die to yourself.

Good report Commander. My nephew had a similar report for our District Commander who was also his outpost Commander. Marine bootcamp GPS died and Matt used the North start as navigation...the rest of the team had no clue.

It's cool to see things come back that we taught.
