It's the most wonderful time of the year December Thread
Got up this morning to the realization that it's December 1st! Wow, time slows down for no one.
Getting ready to get ready to go to church and get ready for Praise & Worship. That's a lot of getting ready....

Well that was a pretty rough song service this morning... Seems like we were all off. Then again, I've had times that I thought were horrible and other people were swept away by the Spirit. Good thing the Spirit's move doesn't hinge on my performance!

Re: It's the most wonderful time of the year December Thread
Well, shotgun/muzzleloader last one week beginning today. We had a weekend muzzleloader in Oct and we'll have another 4 day muzzleloader in Jan. Bow season goes Sept-Jan. There are several youth gun seasons too. Crossbow is permissable without permit. No rifles except muzzleloader. You can pistol hunt but must be 5" or longer and .357mag or higher caliber.

Re: It's the most wonderful time of the year December Thread
Hi guys
Been crazy busy lately between family/Pastor search & fixing/hiring repairs on stuff at church that is not working.
We have had more equipment failures in the last 6 weeks than all year long
this guy--> is getting on my nerves. We must be on the right track or he would not be expending so much energy on us

Went day 1 of gun season saw nothing. Met a fellow hunter about 5:30pm on the way out and he hadn't seen anything either. Talked to Chris for awhile during lunch.

Re: It's the most wonderful time of the year December Thread
Well I hope you get one! I've let the season slip by me without getting out once. I suppose I could try to get out between now and the new year, but I don't think that's realistic with all the other irons I have in the fire... oh well. Can't do everything.

Re: It's the most wonderful time of the year December Thread
Guys. I got my doe on the way to work 6 months ago. She jumped onto the mirror of my phone truck tore it off went over the top of my truck cab...(I thought I was dead or close to it) and then got hung up in my 28' ladder. I was only going 25 and stopped quickly..she came off my ladder hit the top of truck hood and got up and gave me a look and then bounded off jumping 30 feet at a time. I am sure it was one of Santa's reign deer. That doe thought she could fly.
Anyway...every time I pass by there (every day) I think of that little doe that didn't have a glowing red nose.
So that is my hunting experience.... GRIN!

Something to ponder while your sitting in your tree stand or your back against a tree waiting for that perfect shot.
Happy hunting. I wished I could...Momma says NO!

Re: It's the most wonderful time of the year December Thread
The week before Thanksgiving, my boys and I went up into the hills after they were off work. Driving up in the moonlit "dark", we saw lots of elk within 100 yards. They'd look at us and keep on eating. We set up for the night, electing to sleep in our trucks, where we could turn on the heaters when needed (-8 F). Early in the morning we could see a small herd grazing a quarter mile away. Twenty minutes before shooting time, a convoy of 11 trucks came barreling by. We never saw another elk that day.

I think you would make a good hunter if your other half didn't keep your man card when it comes to killing animals...

Re: It's the most wonderful time of the year December Thread
Are you kidding. I can shoot, clean, cook, camp... just don't like to kill stuff. If I was hungry... yup I would be first in line to pull the trigger.
We butchered 2 rabbits a few years back at the bat cave. It still bothers me... I ate that rabbit and it was good rabbit..I can still remember the rabbit squealing when we hit it in the head with a hammer. It was dead in less than seconds but that squeal still haunts me.

Funny how I typed that too fast. I wonder if first generations were squeamish over killing animals for skins and meat.

Re: It's the most wonderful time of the year December Thread
I don't think that early generations had anywhere near the empathy that we have.
You can look at the Bible and other references to ancient times. Wiping out a tribe without mercy was often the Norm.
The Jewish Priests made the killing of animals a ritual that was often part of a festival.
And Walt Disney hadn't given personas to Bambi & Thumper, yet.

And there was no such thing as getting a nice marbalized rib eye on a pink foam tray wrapped in plastic ready for the grill. If you wanted it, you had to kill it. That was common life.
