Pow Wow
Howdy!
Southern IL had their pow wow last weekend. Finally got to meet Shane in person!
We had low attendance over all, but a good time. Rained on us Saturday night, Sunday morning, but we got everything packed out ok.
What would rain be, without a pow wow.

Re: Pow Wow
I survived thunderstorms at pow wows. Too many people look at the weather forecast and decide to stay home. Lord help those if this world collapses.

Re: Pow Wow
Same thing happens in Iowa. If we cxled for every drop of rain we'd never camp.
OP rule is to have a jacket & sweater, and we always bring tarps & rope. Teaches them they can weather the storm

Re: Pow Wow
Just goes hand in hand with our cultures mentality of not ever wanting to have to weather a storm. Run and hide from any adversity is the plan nowadays. And we wonder why our "men" are pansies. Part of the fun is telling the story about how you barely got any sleep because it was so cold.

Re: Pow Wow
You nailed it. A big chunk of success is overcoming something. The best events seemed to have something that was hard to over come yet with God's help we over came it.
Staying inside all the time is subjecting one to Man's World. When we get together with Rangers from years back it's always .....do you remember.... when it rained all night... when it was so cold we had to ... when that tree fell on my van... when that snake came out of that hole.... so many cool memories.
Last night. We went out to pick up some Ranger Mobile plywood launch ramps. About 16 foot long 4' tall.
2 of them. My son went with me to help out. He in the past has had a very bad relationship with poison Ivy. Swells his eyes closed.. so while we were there , there was some there. He was careful and when we were wanting to go down to the stream to hunt crawdads for fishing on Thursday night...he said no..I need to go home and take a shower and change clothes. So we told him to jump into the swimming pool and that coloreen would take care of that poison ivy... so he did. While he was in there he noticed a big spider in the filter system. I gave him a stick. He gently got the spider out. A trantuala..about 3" big. Pretty cool. He was telling everyone about it. ...That is the stuff that makes great memories.

Re: Pow Wow
I thought we had a great pow wow, rain and all! But I will say that the LOW (160 registered) attendance was very disappointing. Ed Corbin is a great speaker even if he gets over the boys heads sometimes. Getting to meet the famous red squirrel in person was one of the highlights!

Re: Pow Wow
Shane, two boys in your outpost seemed to like the FCF village pretty well. Bring them back next time and stay a while, while we are teaching crafts and stuff. I dont remember their names.
Nice to meet you as well! We will rub elbows again im sure. Tim J and I are pretty close.

Re: Pow Wow
Yeah they thought the village was pretty cool. It exposes them to a world they've only maybe read about in school. The sad thing is that most boys that have gone through my outpost over the years have all expressed interest in fcf, until they find out how much effort is involved. Then their enthusiasm suddenly disappears. I've got a pretty good group right now so we'll see.
I'd like to get you guys to come down to our winter campout around the end of October. We try to have it around Halloween. Tim rattled off a whole list of events that you guys have coming up. He also said my outpost has a standing invite to all of them.

Re: Pow Wow
Shane, sounds good to me. I will try to stuff it in if I can. I am in the middle of a very busy run in schedule. In 8 weeks I am gone for 6 of them, but would love to come down if I can. Its not that far a drive.
Good report above! And yes, I hope some boys stick it out and join. It will keep them in the ministry longer, and give you and I both more chances to minister to them.
