Bible Merits
I've only got one ER at this point, so we're just keeping the AR's and ER's together. However, I'm debating on buying the ER subscription on Traclub if the Bible Merits are the new style.
We will combine DR's and AR's/ER if we need to like this past week when our DR commander was out. I don't think the AR Bible merits are very much above the heads of a DR if at all. That being said, I strongly dislike the old DR Bible merit lessons, so my thoughts are that when we run out of new style DR Bible merit lessons then we could use AR Bible lessons for that age group and start using ER Bible merit lessons for my AR's/ER class. Clear as mud??
I don't want to waste the money on the subscription though if it's not a good format.

Re: Bible Merits
The ER Spirit Challenge lessons are excellent imho. As well if you're running the new bible # lesson system where you teach 6 browns and 2 alternatives JR Whinery answered me via email when I asked if an AR can use spirit challenge lessons as the 2 alt lessons. He said yes. As well, the AR gets to use the SC lessons toward future ER advancements. ER boy can use the SC lessons toward completion of brown merits to earn his GMA as well as use them for E3. With 150 lessons and only 75 required for E3 an AR turned ER will still have 75 more SC lessons to complete when entering ER. This helps those of us who combine our AR/ER into one group and keep both on track for advancement. One bonus of doing the SC lessons as alt lessons for AR browns is it allows a boy to complete all 150 SC lessons within 6 years.

Thanks Dan. I guess I'll go ahead and activate the ER stuff then.

Re: Bible Merits
I did notice the Spirit Challenges seem to have been taking up the whole meeting time. I haven't done them so I didn't know if it was lack of preparations or if they really took that long. That was about all they did was the spirit challenges and play some networked games and eat pizza. I just was not interested in that at all so I didn't really get involved with it. It just didn't seem to be Rangers to me. It was more a hybrid Sunday School Youth hang out time.
Having a Federal Chaplin in the Group Outpost makes devotions and Bible studies a snap. Good ones too.
I still limit him to about 15 minutes.

Nah, SC's should be 15 min or less its part of the ten point meeting plan which includes devotion and program feature. They are topical and seem to deal with age related issues.

Re: Bible Merits
Agreed, locally when we run SC, when certain topic takes slightly longer time to share, we often break a SC lesson into 2 parts (spread across 2 outpost session) for more opened sharing, it often provides good inside on the spiritual growth and mentality of the rangers we are mentoring. At times we will do debate (i.e. Rangers will have to do research on against and for ahead of the meeting) which topic can still be discussed in depth within 15 mins.RRCmdrBennett wrote:Nah, SC's should be 15 min or less its part of the ten point meeting plan which includes devotion and program feature.
